Shandy DearthShandy Dearth


Executive Director

Shandy joined ISDS in December of 2016. She is responsible for management of the staff and working with the board to see that the goals of the society are reached. Prior to ISDS, Shandy served four years as the Administrator of the Epidemiology Department at the Marion County Public Health Department in Indianapolis. There she worked with community partners in health informatics including syndromic surveillance, emergency preparedness, and infectious diseases. She was the Project Manager for the county's BioSense agreement and was the Principal Investigator on a refugee health surveillance agreement. Mark Krumm

Mark Krumm Director of Communications

Mark joined ISDS in the spring of 2016.  He is responsible for web and social communications and management and promotion of the ISDS Annual Conference. Prior to ISDS, he served as Director of Communications at Tufts University for eight years, and as president of a conference and meeting management firm specializing in large medical continuing education conferences. Emilie LambEmilie Lamb

Director of Informatics

Emilie joined ISDS in September of 2016. She is responsible for coordination and management of the NSSP Community of Practice Cooperative Agreement including supporting the NSSP-CoP Steering Committee. She is also overseeing the development of the ISDS Knowledge Repository to facilitate the development and exchange of syndromic surveillance resources. Prior to ISDS, Emilie spent 7 years with the NC Division of Public Health as a Public Health Informatician working on the NC Electronic Surveillance System (NCEDSS), onboarding hospitals for electronic laboratory reporting, and coordinating the NC DPH response to Meaningful Use. She received her MSPH in Microbiology and Emerging Infectious Diseases from George Washington University and her BS in Biology from Wake Forest University. Email.

Catherine TongCatherine Tong

Project Coordinator

Catherine (Cat) joined ISDS in February 2016. She currently supports the Research Committee and R Group for Biosurveillance. She is also spearheading an ISDS initiative to develop a research agenda in syndromic surveillance.

Cat has prior experience as a pre-veterinary undergraduate with interest in infectious/zoonotic diseases. At Cornell University, she conducted research on heterologous expression of protozoan proteins for her senior thesis. She has had numerous experiences volunteering and interning at wildlife rehabilitation centers and small animal hospitals. Deciding that she wanted to pursue a career in public health, she moved on to work at the Ann Chandler Public Health Center in the City of Berkeley after graduation. She then enrolled as an MPH candidate at the Boston University School of Public Health to build her expertise as a public health practitioner. Before joining ISDS, she worked as an Administrative/Research Assistant at Boston Medical Center within the Department of Family Medicine. Email.
